bboy foundation

BBOY FOUNDATION

The Bboy Foundation class is suited for individuals who have no background whatsoever in Bboying and would like to start from scratch. The class follows a four-phase system, which teaches basic toprock, footwork, balancing/freeze positions and physical conditioning such as strength and flexibility. The aim of this class is to prepare the students for more difficult levels and to avoid injuries from occuring due to a lack of physical conditioning.

THE WAVE/LIQUID ROBOT/G-STYLE

We have started a new class for all you popping enthusiast, which is the wave/G-style/liquid robot class. This class will be centered around waves in detail, more variation of waves, advanced styles of waves and waves combos. In general the material taught can be cataloged as swipe waves, drop waves, wave-roll combos, technical wave tricks, finger waves, wave through combos, spiral waves, ticking waves, segmented/catepillar waves, reverse palm waves, body wave combinations, wave-floorwork combos. energy ball and many more. The liquid robot style is based on a combination of bodywave, snaking, and arm hydraulics with stop actions in between. The G-style of popping is another original popping style. which originated from Pomona, california around the early 80s. This style is based around very freestyle wave combination centered around the dancer manipulating an energy ball through his body. Most significantly identified as done by the Legendary Slick Dogg, the G style is a unique style in its own right along with the boogaloo and animation styles of popping. This class is suitable for poppers who have completed all the basic technicals in wave foundations and would like to specialize. I would like to strongly emphasize that the material taught is meant to help the individual create their own style and direction and are not fixed.

BBOY STYLES

The Bboy classes have been segmented into four types of classes as described below. The main purpose is for the instructor to focus on delivering the required teaching material effectively. Beginner students are advised to join in the footwork and toprock classes for a at least two months before progressing on to the more physically challenging classes such as freezes and spins. It is important to develop their rhythmic side of the dance first before embarking on the stunts and flashy moves.

TOPROCK

The most ideal for beginners, this class focuses on teaching the individual how to dance first. As the name suggest, top rocking means to dance in a standing position and it is important for all boys to learn the basic fusion between music and movement first before getting down to a blow up or floor move. This class is also ideal for dancers who started out with power moves but did less dancing.

FOOTWORK

The most important of Bboy foundations is the footwork. It identifies the dancer as a true and original bboy. This class works on the technical accuracy and near perfection of each basic footwork technique notably the six step and its commonly used derivatives and variations. The class aims to teach the student to be able to use the foundation techniques with the beat and to help them develop their own style.

FREEZES

The freeze class concentrates more on the physical aesthetics of the bboy style, teaching the five basic balance/freeze positions which are the head; chair, shoulder elbow and hand stand, allowing the student to have a strong base for developing more advanced and signature freezes or freeze combinations.

FLOOR SPINS

This class concentrates on the other power segment of the dance, which is floor spins such as windmills, swipes, flares, halos, air flares, nineties, headspins and so on. This class is suitable for individuals who have done a few months in the footwork, toprock and freezes class.

Yo….to all our fellow students, as u all know from February 2009 onwards we will be implementing a brand new system to enhance and upgrade our overall class quality…as u all know, the Urban Groove has always been on the forefront of bringing u the most original, detailed, specialized of Urban Street Styles, and this year we are expanding our variety to include more..

For example, our Poppin’ class has been divided into three types of classes such as the Foundation, Boogaloo and lastly Animation/Tricks. Well, the reason for such a divide is because there is simply too much material to just pile up in one class. In each class, u will have lotsa new stuff to learn and most importantly find the direction u wanna go. There are some people who use the moves from Popping in Hip Hop therefore creating a New Style..in this case the foundation class will be perfect for such individuals, where as the hardcores could either choose to go into Animation Style or become a Boog Style dancer…cool eh!!!

Thats not all..even the Hip Hop and Bboy classes will become more specialized with classes specifically on Top Rock, Footwork, Freezes and Floor Spins..this will be great for a particular bboy who has good power but lacks ootwork..he can work on his weakness by attending more towards the footwork and toprock classes…Well, for the Hip Hop junkies, there are choices of doin different types of New Style choreographies such as Street Jazz, Lyrical Hip Hop, New Jack Swing and so on…

Thats just the icing….whats so awesome is that we have a whole new range of styles just for girls…such as Girl Styles, Wacking/Punkin, Vogue and also Reggae..the Girls Style Hip Hop will be choreographies suited for the feminine yet agreesively finesse movements that girls do so much better than guys..honest!!!!..in the Wack, Vogue class, u will get to learn and appreciate more technicals and rhythmic patterns of this other unique urban dance forms.

Well, what r u waitin for, get all ya friends…Keep Groovin y’all!!!

…PEACE…
